Connection is one of my top values and in the month of December I choose to celebrate it. Christmas for many is a season of connection. It is a time for us to slow down and take time to connect with family and friends. The challenge with connection however is that it often involves food and drink and at Christmas time, the potential for an abundance of it. This challenge often leads to anxiety and stress over gaining weight over the holidays.
One of the things that I love about the Fitmethod and the FitMetabolism philosophy is the ability we have to join in the celebration with our loved ones. We are able to plan ahead and partake in the festivities, instead of disconnecting from those around us.
Gone are the days when a choice had to be made. Stay home to stay “ON” plan or “blow it” by going out to a party or hosting our loved ones.
For me this feels liberating. If our goal is to go to a family Christmas party and not eat any of Grandmas’ famous shortbread, we have likely set ourselves up for perceived failure (unless we don’t like shortbread.) In contrast, if our goal is to go to the same party and truly connect with our loved ones by listening to stories, sharing in laughter and indulging in some homemade treats, then we are far more likely to be successful.
Remember, it is what we do repeatedly, on a daily basis that determines our outcome, not purely what we do over Christmas break.
So give yourself some grace and connect with yourself.
How else can you connect in the month of December? Book an appointment with your Fitmethod coach- and keep it! Remember, as things get busier we at FitMetabolism offer sessions via Skype or Facetime. You get to save travel time and we get to connect with you and provide you the support you need through the holiday season.
Fight the gravitational pull to cancel your appointments in December and book your coaching visit! Your journey here is long term, with the goal being true behaviour change. There is a lot to learn about our behaviour over the holidays.
Always remember FitMetabolism is a judgment free environment and often a session with your Fitmethod coach can help you reframe some of the black or white thinking you may be accustomed to.
Lastly we have many avenues in addition to your traditional one on one coaching visit. Two great ways to connect that are included in your membership are:
• The Wellness in Action group held every Thursday evening from 6:30pm-8pm.
• FitChat with author, educator and visionary Jason Hagen held on the last Monday of the month from 7pm-8pm.
As always you can bring a friend, family member or loved one to experience first hand what FitMetabolism is about.
Merry Christmas everyone!
